Bosque’s boys and girls lacrosse teams were recently featured in the May 2012 edition of the ABQ Sports Magazine, in an article about the growth of the sport in New Mexico.
Bosque School was instrumental in starting high school lacrosse in New Mexico six years ago.
The Bosque lacrosse team began 2008 with only two other lacrosse teams in New Mexico. Sandia Prep soon followed and then Bosque helped start a fifth team at Sandia High School by providing coaching instruction and introductory drills to their new team. There are currently six high school lacrosse teams in New Mexico. When Taos set out to form their lacrosse team they needed equipment. The Bosque School team donated a set of ten shoulder pads to help their program get up and running. “Bosque has been integral to the spread of the sport throughout the state through clinics, summer camps, and as the host of the annual championship tournament. I was especially excited to help get the Taos program underway because they will be including a number of young people from Taos Pueblo and since lacrosse originated in Native America it seems fitting to help return the sport to its roots” says Eric Whitbeck, Bosque teacher and founding coach.
