Author Leslie Marmon Silko Visits Bosque SchoolAuthor and educator Leslie Marmon Silko spoke to Bosque 8th graders and Upper school students on Thursday, November 18, 2010 in Budagher Hall. Leslie Marmon Silko was visiting Albuquerque to discuss her first full-length work of nonfiction, her memoir The Turquoise Ledge. Her first book in nearly ten years weaves personal history with mythology creating a unique narrative. It is a refreshingly original self portrait deemed by Larry McMurtry to be "the finest prose writer of her generation." Silko put together a series of observations from her daily walks through the Sonoran desert outside of Tucson where she lives. Included are personal revelations and compelling stories of creatures sharing the landscape with her. Writer Joy Williams calls her book "a classic of desert writing." November 19, 2010 |
